What Do I Have to Do?

Pray for them regularly
Keep in touch – periodically send an e-mail or a letter
Get the whole family involved – encourage your children to learn about the missionaries, their calling, and where they serve

What to Pray For:

The missionary’s physical, spiritual, and financial health (Romans 8:11; 2 Corinthians 9:8; Colossians 1:9-12)
Recognize that it is the will of God for His children to have health and strength to carry out His work.
Protection of the missionary’s mind (2 Corinthians 1:8-11, John 14:27, Hebrews 4:9-11)
The time away from home, the loneliness, the long hours, the oppression of the enemy, all work towards wearing down the missionary.
Protection against Satan’s attacks on their spirit (Deuteronomy 31:6, Ephesians 6:12)
At times a missionary can get discouraged. Intense powers of darkness can make the work difficult and slow. Pray for their encouragement and for strength to be given to break through the powers of darkness.
A heart filled with the love of God (Psalm 133, Amos 3:3, John 13:35)
Pray that they may have love for their fellow missionaries who are always at hand. It is imperative that there be love between missionaries, for only then can God bless the work. Pray also that the missionaries may have Christ’s love for the lost.
More laborers (Matthew 9:37)
More workers are needed to advance God’s kingdom. Pray that God would raise up an army of His people to work in the mission fields.

How to Pray:

In faith (Luke 11:9-10, John 11:40, John 9:23, Hebrews 11:1)
Meditate on the Scriptures given above, finding in them that it is God’s will to ask these various things for the missionaries.
Consistently (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Satan’s defeat may cost you many hours of perseverance in prayer. Make sure you “pray without ceasing.”
In the Spirit (Romans 8:26-27)
Effective prayer must be in the Spirit. God has promised to help us pray by His Spirit. Prayer is not a burden but rather a privilege and responsibility to be exercised.
Praise God for the answers (2 Chronicles 20:20-22, Luke 17:17-18)
So often praise is missing in our prayer life and effective prayer is crippled because of it. Praise God for the answers to prayer He has given and for the answers He is going to give
